Recent years have seen a surge in cyber-attacks, with businesses of all sizes becoming targets. These attacks are becoming more sophisticated every day, making it harder and harder for businesses to protect their data. The court system is not immune to these attacks; in fact, we may be even more vulnerable. That’s why it’s so important for us to prioritize our digital security and harden our grid against potential attacks.

So as you consider implementing the various ideas & concepts I’ve shared over the past month, make sure that you do not use freemium products. Only consider technology that includes the proper security features.

You need to be asking yourself questions like, does this software have two-factor authentication? Is the data encrypted in transit and at rest? What are the security levels offered on the different licenses/subscriptions?

You should also be asking yourself, who in my Court will have access to this information and on what devices? Can I remotely wipe the devices that have access to this software? Do we have a strong password policy or a policy at all?

If you are unsure about any of these factors, be sure to consult with an expert or check out the wonderful resources on cyber security for courts provided by National Center for State Courts; @StateCourts. By taking precautions, you can help protect your Court from the devastating effects of a cyber attack.
